PLANT SURVEYS
One aspect of our project is to partner with Lauren Ponisio, who is conducting a multi-year study on floral enhancement in clear-cuts with the aim of promoting native pollinator diversity in post-fire ecosystems.

In the winter of 2021, Lauren and her team conducted phase one of this study by sowing seeds from a selection of native forbs both in and outside burn piles in a controlled paired design. Seeds were sown in single-species and mixed-species 0.5-meter quadrat plots. In the spring of 2022, our team worked with Lauren Ponisio to monitor the number and stage of germinating plants within those marked plots in order to assess species germination success in post-fire clear cuts.
